August 2024 - Police Scotland Safety Camera Campaign

There’s a story behind every speed camera. That story involves someone having been injured or killed because of driving too fast. Speed cameras are there to make the road safer for all road users and help ensure those stories don’t happen again.

In 2022 there were 5,621 people reported injured on roads across Scotland. Police Scotland Safety Cameras aim is to reduce the number of people injured on our roads through targeted camera enforcement and improving driver behaviour. By locating our safety cameras at collision hotspots, we encourage drivers to reduce their speed and drive responsibly.

Travelling at safe speeds is shown to reduce the risk of road death and injury and enable more people to make safe and healthy            journeys. Not only does it give drivers enough time to spot and react to hazards on the road, but if an impact was to occur it would be less likely to cause serious injury or a fatality.
