M74 Junctions 3-3a maintenance scheme
19 February 2021
Scottish South West Trunk Roads Unit: Maintenance on M74
ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE ON M74 JUNCTIONS 3 - 3a COMMENCES 22nd FEBRUARY
Essential maintenance on the northbound and southbound M74 between Junctions 3 and 3a will take place overnight from Monday 22nd February to Sunday 7th March 2021. No work will take place during the day, but lane closures will remain in place to allow for a speedy resumption of works.
Preparatory works, involving daytime lane closures, will be taking place on the weekends of Friday 19th February to Monday 22nd February and Friday 26th February to Monday 1st March.
This scheme with a value of £700,000, will benefit vehicles using this route by improving safety, addressing issues with vertical profile of the road and improving the carriageway surfacing.
A signed diversion route will be in operation while these works are taking place, and advance signage will be in place on the approaches to both phases of the scheme.
PHASE1
Work will take place overnight from 8pm to 6am from Monday 22nd February to Sunday 28th February 2021 on the southbound carriageway.
Traffic on the M77/M8 motorway heading south will be directed to the M8 Kingston Bridge and on to the eastbound M8. From here, vehicles will travel to the M8 Junction 8 Baillieston Roundabout to follow the southbound M73 and will re-join the M74 at Junction 4.
Southbound traffic on the M74 east of the Kingston Bridge, and local traffic joining the M74 between Junction 1 and Junction 2a, will be diverted at M74 Junction 2a to follow the A74, B7058 and A89 to Baillieston Roundabout. From here, vehicles will follow the southbound M73 to join the M74 at Junction 4.
Due to restricted lane closures there may be delays of up to 30mins at peak times on the southbound M74. Trunk Road Incident Support Service vehicles from the South West Trunk Roads and M8DBFO units will be on patrol to monitor traffic flows. A free vehicle recovery service will also be in operation for any vehicles requiring assistance within the extents of the closure.
Please note: the M74 Junction 3 from Carmyle will be closed during the day all week.
Please plan your journey, allow extra time and consider an alternative route if possible, for essential travel.
Phase 2
Work will take place overnight between 8pm and 6am from Monday 1st March to Sunday 7th March 2021 on the northbound carriageway.
From 8pm to 6am each night there will be a total closure of the northbound M74 from the Junction 4 off-slip road to the Junction 2 on-slip road, with a signed diversion in place.
Northbound M74 traffic will be directed to the northbound M73 to Junction 2, A8 (M8) to Swinton Roundabout and then travel on the A8 Baillieston Cross and follow the Glasgow City Council network via the A89 Glasgow Road, Mount Vernon Avenue and then the A74 London Road to the M74 Junction 2a, where this diversion will end.
Traffic travelling to the M77/M8 motorway westbound will be directed to the westbound M8 Kingston Bridge to continue their journey.
There will also be a closure of the northbound M74 Daldowie on-slip road, with a signed diversion via the northbound M73.
There will be a closure of the southbound M73 to the northbound M74 slip road with a diversion via M74 Junction 3a to return on the northbound M73.
Please note, during peak times there may be delays of up to 34 mins on the northbound M74.
There may also be delays on the southbound M73 to northbound M74 Junction of up to 39 minutes at peak times.
Trunk Road Incident Support Service vehicles from the NMC SW and M8DBFO units will be on patrol to monitor traffic flows. A free vehicle recovery service will also be in operation for any vehicles requiring assistance within the extents of the closure.
